Question

Multiplayer gaming solutions?

I found a few different posts refering to some multiplayer solutions or quesitions but they were a couple years old and the solutions seemed made more of hopes, dreams, and unicorn dust.

So, the question:  Best solutions for Multiplayer Gaming via Air that will work (preferbably cross platform) on mobile devices and desktop? Something simple, like a turn based game (think word with friends or Chess).

I'm also open to single platform solutions.

Thanks in advance!

Hey all, i'm reviving this thread. What are the affordable, AIR Mobile supporting real-time multiplayer game server cloud options out there? i am developing a game and was using Photon Cloud, but it is really inconsitent and drops connections all the time (at least the flash version does on AIR Mobile over 3G)

i'm starting a list in hopes of getting some answers and filling it out. it would be great for people to chime in and give some commentary on cost and performance. i am looking for a cloud-based solution so i can keep the cost down but am unsure of what will work well over wifi and 3G/LTE data conncetions and in AIR Mobile.

Since i am really interested in the cloud servers (from a cost and implementation perspective), i have focused on those...

Cloud Options

Adobe Media Server on Amazon Web Services

http://www.adobe.com/products/amazon-web-services.html

(have not heard about any AIR Mobile game developer experiences with this)

Photon Cloud Multiuser Server

http://cloud.exitgames.com/

http://blog.sebaslab.com/first-actionscript-3-multiplayer-game-with-photon-cloud/

(i have expereinced frequently-dropped connections as have other AIR developers i have spoken to)

Parse

https://www.parse.com/

(have not heard about any AIR Mobile game developer experiences with this)

Player.IO

http://playerio.com/

(for mobile development on AIR Mobile, you need their paid plan)

Gamooga

http://www.gamooga.com/

(unsure of the pricing model, have not heard about any AIR Mobile game developer experiences with this)

Union Cloud

http://unioncloud.io/

(no free plan, have not heard about any AIR Mobile game developer experiences with this)

I havent listed servers like SmartFox or Electrotank because i dont think they are as cost effective, esepcially when factoring in monthly server costs and needing to develop the server-side logic (for most of the cloud options i dont think i even need server side logic, but i may be wrong). i can add the non-cloud options if it sounds cost competitive.
