new AIR app does not show automatic update notification for existing users

I just loaded a new AIR app in the apple store, but there is no automatic update notification! Doesn't that happen automatically with any new app? Or do I need to set something in the publish panel, use an AIR extension, or check some box with apple? Please, help; I must be missing something small and stupid! Many thanks. Fiona
