Not possible to access contacts from AIR?

Am I correct to state that it is not possible to access the android contacts from an AIR application?

Bummer I really needed this functionality. I'm wondering now about using the Google contacts API as a workaround. Not ideal but should work!

At the current time that is correct. The device's contact database is not accessible to AIR for Android or the iOS packager. I am not sure if the BlackBerry Playbook will allow it since there is a deeper integration with OS.
