Null error report on loading Adobe Reader

I am having problems trying to instal Adobe reader, the error report is null.

I have used the microsoft tool to clear the registry keys but this informs me that there are no problems.

Operating system XP SP3.

All suggestions welcome as I have had this problem for a number of months and although I can use another reader, this is not very helpful when trying to open a pdf on the net.
