Question

problems with Aodbe AIR installed along with Adobe Reader X

I'm not able to install AIR applications if I have the version of Adobe AIR which was installed along with Adobe Reader X download process.

steps to reproduce:

1. Uninstall your local AIR, Reader and any one AIR application you want to install back

2. Visit Adobe.com and install Adobe Reader X

3. Wait for install of Adobe Reader X to complete and once done confirm you have Adobe Reader X installed and also Adobe Air 2.5.1.17730 installed silently.

4. Now try to install your AIR application through badge.

Problem:

you can notice badge will show you the install button for the AIR app, but on click nothing much happens

Expected:

the AIR application install wizard dialog should pop-up

Workaround:

1. Download the AdobeAirInstaller.exe from Adobe.com

2. Run the exe and wait till it shows 'this version of AIR already installed'

3. Now go back to the badge and click on the install app button

4. App install wizard pops up and installs the application

Can someone please clarify what could have gone wrong? What should be done to overcome this issue?

We are also encountering this exact issue with the latest version of Adobe Reader X.  I am using Windows XP Professional, logged in as a newly created user named Jeff with Adminstrator priveleges.  I install Adobe Reader X 10.3 which installs the latest AIR runtime.  In C:\Documents And Settings\Default User\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin there is an airappinstaller directory with airappinstaller.exe and digest.s files.  However, the C:\Documents And Settings\Jeff\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin contains nothing.  If I go to the web page with the badge install and click it, nothing happens.  If I copy the aireappinstaller directory to C:\Documents And Settings\Jeff\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin and try again, it does work.

This looks to me like a bug in the Adobe Reader X installer, it should create the airappinstaller directory in the current user's app data directory, not just the default user.

Thank you for the heads up.  I'll forward this along to the Reader team, but could you post back with your AIR installer log?  I'd like to see if any errors occurred during the install.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

Would you mind checking a couple of things for us?  After Reader X is installed, could you look at the following folders and verify that the files airappinstaller.exe and digest.s are installed?  It would be helpful if we could get the size and date of these files too.

C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin\airappinstaller

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin\airappinstaller

Would it be possible to get a link to the badge installer so we could try to reproduce this in house?

Thanks,

Chris

I tried as you asked. Please find the details below

In this folder C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin\airappinstaller

there were two files airappinstaller(53 KB) and digest.s(3 KB)

In this folder C:\Users\User1\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin

there were no folder called 'airappinstaller' as you expected

Hope this information helps you.

Please let me know if you still require the badge installer. I will send the link through mail.
