Reinstallin Adobe Air over and over again

Each time I launch an Adobe Air app, it tells me I need to update Adobe Air. I update Adobe Air, every time from

Installed: 1.5.3.9130

to

Update: 2.5.1.17730

Over and over again, until I click "update later" button.

Running Windows 7.

Any idea how to fix the problem?

I uninstalled 1.5.3.9130, deleted all the folders and files you suggested, and tried to use the installer from the main Adobe AIR page. Didn't work.

Removed everything again, installed from the 1.5.3.9130 installer that came with Captivate 5 - at least my AIR apps are working (except Captivate HELP app).

Tried disabling all my anti-virus, downloading the installer again, and running it - no go. The AIR apps still prompt for the upgrade every time I run them.

I tried downloading the installer with a different browser - still didn't work.

I'm not sure what you're going to see with a screenshare. - There's really not much visually going on except the installer saying it's finished. Here are the new installer logs. Are there any other log files - maybe something in the event viewer?

I've forwarded your post to our installer engineers, so we'll see if they have any guidance that will stop this from occuring.  I was considering desktop sharing so I could go through your registry and try removing AIR related entries.  If you feel comfortable doing that yourself, it might be worthwhile since it's helped others in the past.  Searching for strings with "AIR" (or obvious AIR product related keys) seems to be what most users have done.

Does anyone have any insight into this problem? This is getting pretty frustrating. I'm stuck on Adobe Air 1.5, the Help System in Adobe Captivate does not work. I suspect other things are out of whack, but I just haven't hit the problems, yet.

Anyone?

Hmm, I'm not seeing any obvious errors with the log.  If possible, let's try the following steps:

1. Unintsall AIR

2. Open Explorer and let's manually delete the following folders if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe AIR
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Player\AssetCache
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\#Security\FlashPlayerTrust
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin\airappinstaller
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\AIR
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\AIR
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\www.macromedia.com\bin\airappinstaller

3. Reinstall AIR and check to see if the updater appears

Hi,

Sorry you're running into difficulties during the runtime update.  Just so I understand correctly, when you get the update message it's telling you that you currently have 1.5.3 installed, even after you've updated to 2.5.1?

Could you try uninstalling AIR from the control panel, then installing the latest stand alone runtime?

If you still run into problems, please attach your AIR installer log file which is located at:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\AIR\logs

You'll have to show hidden folders to view this location.

Here's the full story:

Had a problem with Adobe Captivate 5 (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/760716), so I uninstalled Adobe Captivate 5 and Adobe Captivate 4 (which had been left installed by the Captivate 5 installer). Then I reinstalled Captivate 5.

I had been running Captivate 5 for a bit now, and I've been using some Adobe Air apps, and I'm pretty sure that the Adobe Air had been automagically updated to something above Adobe Air version 2. When I reinstalled Captivate 5, and tested it, it worked (Yea). When I launched my Adobe Air apps, I got a notice that I needed to update Adobe Air.

That seemed fine. I updated. Then the next time I launched my Adobe Air apps, I had to update again. That seemed strange.

The next time, I wrote down the version numbers and started playing with it a little bit. Every time, even though I had just updated, I was asked to update again.

So I check my installed programs. I saw Adobe Air 1.5.3.9130 was installed, even though I know I had updated to 2.5.1.17730. So I downloaded the latest and greatest full Adobe Air installer, and I tried to install it. As usually, it claimed to have installed, but in my installed programs, I saw that 1.5.3.9130 was still installed.

So then I tried uninstalling, from the Windows Program Manager, Adobe Air 1.5.3.9130. I clicked through the warning that some apps would no longer work. I rebooted. I tried installing from the latest downloaded installer for Adobe Air. As always, it claimed to have successfully installed, but now none of my Adobe Air apps worked.

I dug around my file system, and I found "Adobe AIR Application Installer.exe". I ran it, Adobe Air 1.5.3.9130 was installed, and my apps worked again.
