Question

Settings Panel in AIR's version of Flash Player doesn't work

We have an AIR app, which is essentially an AIR web browser.  The site loaded includes a video player SWF that uses the webcam.  The problem is that in Windows XP, the Flash Player Settings Panel doesn't work.  In other words, when the Settings Panel is displayed, it is not possible to click on "Allow" or "Close".  The entire panel is unresponsive.

As a comparison, there is no such problem on the same machine when running the website through a traditional browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.).  What I noticed is that the version of Flash Player used by AIR is different from the one used by browsers:

  • AIR 2.7.19480 uses Flash Player 10.3.181.22
  • All browsers use Flash Player 10.3.183.5

We had this problem reported on 3 Windows XP installations.  This problem does not exist on Windows 7.

Is this a known issue?  Is there a workaround?  Can we force AIR to use a different version of Flash Player?

I haven't seen this come up before with AIR, though we have seen this in the past with Flash Player.  Would you mind entering this as a new bug over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Please post back with the bug's URL so that others affected can cast their vote and add comments.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the prompt reply.  I submitted the bug: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2950652.

As this problem is being fixed, are there any workarounds you could suggest?  For example, is there an older version of AIR that works?  Can we force AIR to use a different version of Flash Player?  Were there ther any workarounds on similar issues you've seen?  Etc.

Thanks!

Thanks for adding the bug!

The previous issues with this were OS X Lion specific, and there were no known workarounds (other than using the native control panel for Flash Player).  However, we'll update the bug with any workaround we do find.

In the interim, previous versions of AIR can find them here:

Archived Adobe AIR Runtime and SDK Versions

Though not recommended for most users, if you'd like to disable auto update notifications, scroll down on the page and you'll find instructions for our SettingsManager tool.
