There are discussions that are more about how apps crash on iPhone X simulator, or about black borders, and those topics have talked about the name of the splash screen too.

The short answer, for the image name, seems to be Default-375w-812h@3x~iphone.png for iPhone X.

This page shows the image dimensions:

I can't find for sure what the iPhone 8 file name should be, but the system suggests it should be Default-375w-667@2x~iphone.png. This page seems to confirm that:

Adobe AIR * Application icons

which makes sense, as it seems to be the same as the iPhone 7.
