Question

Video jumps to front on Android

Hi,

I have a video application written in Flash Professional CS6 running on an android device (NetStream w/ Video Object).  The video is located at the bottom of the display list - there are controls on top of the video.  If I deactivate/leave the application, when I return and the video playback resumes, the video is displayed at the top of the display list.  There is nothing in the code that should modify the display list order - in fact, I've even tried putting the video in an container movieclip so that it is nested.  I've also tried forcing the video to the back of the display list with addChildAt.  The video still is displayed on top.

I'm thinking it may be a bug in AIR on android.  I'm wondering if anyone has run into it and found a solution?

Thanks!

It sounds like you're using an H.264 video, and it's being handled by the hardware. I'm not sure why it would ever be behind the other controls. If you used an On2VP6 FLV you would be able to layer it, but the performance probably wouldn't be as good.

If I'm right, you'll need to rearrange your controls to make sure they're not on top of where the video is going to appear.

Thanks, I am using H.264 video and as you indicated would prefer not to use FLV for performance reasons.  However, I'll certainly try an FLV to confirm.  Is H.264 handled differently on the desktop - no issues with this on PC.

Rearranging the controls is an option, but there are reasons I wish to have the controls and other display objects floating above the video.   Strange that it works fine until I leave the application and only jumps to the top when I resume the application.

We are having this same issue, but the video is 7 layers deep inside several MovieClips and has other MovieCips and images placed in front.  AIR for Android 21.0.  Can cause it to happen just by pressing ALT+TAB to show the app switcher.  Android 4.2.2
