Question

Video Performs well on iPhone but stutters badly on iPad?

I've got a simple app that plays two VP6 live streams from a Flash Media Server.

I build using the FlexSDK and then package for AIR IOS targetting both iPhone and iPad.

Video playback is working well on the iPhone, but the same app is performing terribly on the iPad.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Playing 2 streams at once is allready very heavy to do.

Ipad has higher resolution then iphone, are your videos exactly the same dimensions or does the ipad have to stretch ? Its possible that the ipad has MORE pixels to draw then the iphone and once its saturated, its saturated.

I've tried also with a single stream and gotten the same result.

I'm streaming at 320x240x15 which fills the top half of my iPhone screen. The same video sits in the top-left corner of my iPad's screen. I'm seeing the same behavior - smooth on the iPhone but lagged and choppy on the iPad.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. Which version of AIR are you using? Could you try the AIR 3 beta build from http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplatformruntimes/air3/ and see if you still see the issue. In that case, please report a bug at http://bugbase.adobe.com. Please include the sample code/project. It would be great if you could post the bug number here so that other effected developers can add notes and comments.

Thanks,

Sanika
