Write a file to USB

I have an app installed on a USB stick and it runs fine.

However, is there a way to write files to the same USB?

applicationStorageDirectory is no good

applicationDirectory won't write

I have tried   app:/somefolder   as a url for a folder  but no luck.

Ideas?
