Question

1120: Access of undefined property is NOT Advanced Layers!

So while the Advanced Layers situation may fix this, we're seeing instances where it's working on one project but not another.

If SOMEONE from Adobe could PLEASE watch this video and tell my why, while one project with the EXACT SAME CODE works FINE with Advanced Layer On and another project with the EXACT SAME CODE does NOT work with Advanced Layers???

I would certainly appreciate it!!

Thank you!

    Hi.

    Thanks for the video.

Although advanced layers are turned on by default, they really only take effect if you use a feature that depends on it, like the camera, layer parenting or layer depth.

So I can only think that it's possible that the second document uses one of these features and that's why you get the compiler error.

Can you try to verify this?

If that still doesn't help, please let us know.

    Regards,

    JC

No, the second document is set up exactly like the first document. And, again, this is only 1 of 12 students getting this error. It's really weird and makes zero sense to me. The student is able to finish the project without the Advnaced Layers turned on, but I would REALLY like to hear an explination from Adobe about this.

it can't always be determined what is, or caused, a problem by looking at the current state of a fla.

    click file>publish settings>tick permit debugging.

    test

copy and paste here the exact error message.

Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 5, Line 4, Column 1 1120: Access of undefined property ReturnButton.

ReturnButton is undefined (and that's what's on frame 5, line 4).

one way to find out what you should be using to reference the object you want to encode is to add code to the object's timeline:

    trace("object",this.name,this.parent.name)

and on the parent of the object's time where you're triggering the 1120 error, use

    trace(this.name);

but with a button, you should (temporarily, if you want) change the instance behavior to a movieclip (in the properties panel).
