Adding Filter to Symbols in Armature Makes Them Disappear Upon Testing Scene

Hi all, 

I was adding a drop shadow to a folder of layers that contained armatures but sometimes it wouldn't apply it to all the layers, just one keyframe, and othertimes it did. Anyways it was too inconsistent for 100 scenes I am working with so I decided instead to add drop shadows to individual symbols inside each character armature (example, each of the characters' head symbols). Shows up completely fine in the workspace. 

When I go to test scene, all the symbols I've added the drop shadow filter to (in this case all the heads) have disappeared. I tried it in multiple scenes with five different armatures. Why is this happening?
