Animate 2025?

Maybe the discontinuation of Adobe Animate will finally result in a proportionate drop in Adobe’s monthly subscription cost. Hopeful thinking.

It is with great sadness that we received Adobe's announcement of the end of Animate.

Thank you to everyone who demanded a statement from the company. I hope that in the future we can exchange ideas about what to do with it.

We’re contacting you to let you know that Adobe will be discontinuing Adobe Animate on 1 March 2026. As an existing Animate user, you may continue to use Animate, but please note that technical support will no longer be available after 1 March 2027.

Please note that access to your Animate files and project data will end on 1 March 2027. To ensure a smooth transition, we encourage you to export your Animate FLA and XFL files to other formats such as SWF, SVG and MP4 files before this date.

Customers with a Creative Cloud Pro plan can use other apps to replace some Animate functionality, including Adobe Express Premium for quick creation of animated videos and graphics and Adobe After Effects for more complex keyframe animation using the Puppet tool. All Creative Cloud members can also use free animation presets in Adobe Express to animate text, images and design elements.

It's really shame that adobe only keep pushing ai features but ditch other features and software 🤷

I would be surprised if there will be any major updates for Animate. maybe decades later?

This thread honestly saddens me so much... I really really hate Adobe. If they kill animate I'll just cancel my subscription.

I tried other software, but I have yet to find one that allows you to create hand-drawn animations so quickly and easily

I asked an Adobe France manager who is in charge of online training, with quite a few well-known speakers. After asking him if he had any news from Animate (in November 2024), he replied that he would keep me informed. I asked him again a month later, he didn't answer me again... We actually have Adobe Max 2025 left for one last hope, after which I stop believing in it!

It's only a matter of days until the one year anniversary of this whole thread, and yet still not a single update has arrived on the situation at hand.

Adobe MAX 2025 is right around the corner, and considering the lack of updates, by the time the 2026 releases come out I think it's only a matter of time until something is proven. I think the most likely scenarios are either that Animate recieves no new major release as expected, or the discontinuation of Animate gets silently announced. Either way, not good.

There's a very ever so slight slim chance that there might be an Animate 2026 on the horizon, but the chance is so slim I wouldn't bet even a penny on that happening.

It sucks that Adobe would much rather chase AI than improve one of their most influential software yet, and I can't lie, Animate is definitely up there as one of the most influential, considering how (back when it was called Flash) it shaped a whole generation of online media throughout the years. Unfortunately, due to Adobe's neglect in recent times, nowadays even Jazza, a guy whose main channel began as a tutorial channel for Flash/Animate users, advises to stop using the software in favour of Toon Boom.

Adobe have dug Animate's grave long ago with the release of Animate 2020 and considering how little marketing this software recieves these days and how little resources go into developing the software (apparently even having the team merge with the After Effects team, as someone in this thread previously had mentioned), it's inevitable that the end is coming.

With the writing on the wall getting clearer every day, I recommend that everyone currently using or considering using Adobe Animate in the near future should consider looking for alternatives now and adapt to said alternative. It will not be sustainable to continue using software that hasn't seen active development since 2023, and things are bound to get worse.

I might have to switch to either Toon Boom or Moho. I am hesitant on Toon Boom due to the recent AI features being announced, however Toon Boom is industry standard, and unless that changes, I think it is important I learn Toon Boom at some point. Moho is the more ethical option for me, but it isn't industry standard as of now, so unless that changes then I'll likely be in a more difficult position career-wise. Depends how things will pan out, but I will need to do such future proofing sooner rather than later.

It had a minor security update a couple of weeks ago, so they still ahve a goblin cahined up somwhere looking at code. I love animate, since i pay for for full cloud apps, i'm quite happy to use animate, instead of Character animator, but everyone is jazzing over that, and it's nowhere near as productive, and flexable as Animate. If they both combined we'd be talking something good.

Sadly, a lot of people around me, even a lot of people on video platforms, don't know this software is dead, and many of them don't even know Animate is Flash. The three software of the former macromedia are all resting.
