Animate doesn't save files, why?

I installed Animate 18.0.1. on a Win10, 8Gb RAM laptop. The software opens correctly, I can work on it, and pressing the "save" button yields no warning messages, but if I reopen the file, it is unchanged. I also can't "save as", since it pops up a message stating "the file name does not exist".

try using 'save as' to save to your desktop directory with a file name of test.fla
