animate gui won't respond when clicking on it,

whenever I open the animate app, it doesn't respond I click on the tad and it just makes a cluncking sound, I forced quit it, re-downloaded, restarted my macbook and nothing has changed! I'm not sure what else I can do? Please help.

    Try to press and hold Esc on the keyboard for a while.

     

    There may be a dialog somewhere out of sight that is blocking the interaction with the start screen.
