Animate won't finish opening file? Loads timeline but continues with color wheel of doom! Help!

I go to oopen the file and it appears to open. I see the timeline and all of the frame info, see the image in the stage, and it looks fine like it's loaded...but the colorwheel never stops spinning. It's like it never finishes loading and Animate stops responding. It doesn't quit unless I force quit it. Just sits there with the colorwheel. PLEASE tell me this file is not corrupt. I have no idea how it could be since I was just in this file last week just looking around. I don't know what I'm going to do if this file does not work-- there goes my paycheck. Anyone have this issue and know how to fix it? My An and OS are up to date, I've restarted multiple times and still the same result. Help!

it's probably corrupt, but check your activity monitor (mac) or task manager (win) to see if there's any useful info about what's locking up.  most likely that will be animate which isn't very useful, but adds weight to the proposition that your fla is corrupt.

have you repaired your fla? have your looked for a recovery file.

and finally, never let this happen again: save your fla files with increasing version number appended.

Task manager says An is not responding, tats it.

I had to d of versions but given all the changes there were I cleaned it all up and got rid of old versions as they kept hindering future jobs with folks storing/giving the wrong files. I purposely checked everything before deleting them and it was fine. Was even poking around the other day to look for some elements for the new project I need to copy/reuse. (They are very technical so it's not as easy as just recreating them). I have No idea how this file could have just spontaneously corrupted itself after that if it is indeed the case.

if you simply deleted previous versions, they should be recoverable.
