Animatic and flow

Hello all,

 

I'm just curious if studios have their animators work on small sections of the animatic and then put all those animatics together, how can they find flow between all these. Wouldn't the timing be off beat at times.

    storyboard:Not by time(The duration is written directly on the screen),It is a continuous picture based on the story.

    lens:Usually 3-5 seconds.Form with 100 units.

    If it's 24 frames(Movie),100/24,It's 4.16 seconds

    If it's 25 frames(Movie),100/25,It's 4 seconds

    The lens is designed according to the storyboard.Schedule the time for each shot.

     

    Animate:Each lens,Make separate animations

    Yes. Most often a studio will have a clear and concise storyboard. That storyboard is then broken down into individual scenes and imported into AnCC. These scenes can be 5 seconds or 30 seconds long depending. Animators are then asked to animate based on the storyboard timing. In many cases, VO is also part of the animatic storyboard that is imported and that's what ensures the timing of the animation to be consistent across the entire episode. 
    With each scene in its own document, the animation is padded to have several frames at the beginning and end. Each document is exported to video or PNG sequence and then stitched together in say, Premiere pro or another video editor.

      Thank you for your reply. It makes a lot of sense. I only have one more question. So does that mean the completed storyboard is create in one file. Say it's a 22 min cartoon do they make the storyboard 22mins long in one file.

      That is usually done in a video editor such as Premiere.

      Animate has a 16 000 frame limit per timeline, so a 22-minute episode cannot be one file at 25 or 30 fps.

       

      A work-in-progress version of an episode is constantly updated (in a video editing application) when shots from animators start coming in. There is always a 'whole' - some shots are still just board panels with audio, some at various levels of completion, but the whole can always be seen and discussed. In this way any problems with editing and continuity can be spotted and tackled early on.

       

      Animators are usually given shots in a video format which they can import and use as a rough guide for timing and posing when animating. Sometimes placeholder audio and placeholder backgrounds are used also.
