Question

Building new PC, is CPU or RAM speed more important?

Hi

I'm posting here as i'm hoping Animate puts similar stresses on the same parts of a system Character Animator does (posted in that forum but having trouble finding info).

A project i'm working on is incredibly slow rigging and doing basically anything inside CA. I can probably go with i7 13700k with DDR5 ram or i9 13900k with DDR4 ram as they work out to roughly the same price. I already have a Geforce 1080 but i'm assuming (hopefully incorrectly) that the extreme lag i'm getting clicking on layers or adding tags etc isn't from the gpu side of things, so I wasn't planning on upgrading that but I can if necessary.

I know it depends on the application in question but I can't find any info on what CA benefits from the most, can anyone offer any insight into this, or for Animate?

Thanks

oops, was going to move your message.

generally, ram and video ram is more important than cpu speed, but everything matters.

Do you think it would benefit from having higher ram bandwidth from ddr5 over the lower cas latency timings of ddr4, or do you think total amount of ram is more important? (going for 32gb total, although i have 24gb of DDR3 now and never come close to using it all)

save yourself time by checking computer builders that do testing and do it thoroughly.  i recommend https://www.pugetsystems.com/

even if you don't buy from there, you can gather a lot of info about what components have the most impact on the various resource hungry software.
