Can not select Character Style

Hi, updated to 2020 and bugs over bugs. 

One thing, I can not select Character Style. It is greyed out, no matter what I do. I never ran in to this problem. 
I have it on HTML5, but tried AS3 as well, same thing. Text box is set to static, but also tried all other settings. 
For the moment I create the text in Illustrator and paste it into Animate as a symbol. And there i was, thinking that Steve Jobs biggest accomplishment was, that designers can chose fonts on a computer. 

Any help welcome, but please not of this, which CPU, is your laptop clam shelled, do you believe in string theory.
