Can't get Animate download to work.

So I downloaded the trial version, and upon opening it, I don't get the little start window I see in YouTube-tutorials. It's just the black window with a grey frame around it. I choose File/New, which opens an incomplete window that I can't enlarge to see all the text. There are no OK/Cancel buttons for the choices I make either. Is this a Javascript error? If so, how do I go about solving it? I run the program in Windows 8.1, on a PC. Very grateful for any help you can offer me. Thanks.

I meant Windows display settings, not Animate preferences. Right-click on your Windows desktop and choose Display settings (I'm hoping that Windows 8.1 is similar to Windows 10.1 and has the same option). In display settings there's a slider, where you can say how much you want text and apps to be scaled up. Try setting that to 100%.

Check your Display settings to see if you have the scale set to 100%. If it's some other number if may be enlarging the dialog to the point that some buttons are not visible.

Thank you, Colin. When I open Preferences, no matter what setting I choose to edit, up pops a window with the same characteristics as  the first one I encountered: a window without OK/Cancel-buttons, only option is to close it with the X in the upper right corner. So any changes I make can't be saved. Other suggestions are very welcome.
