Can't import mp3 file into ActionScript3.0

I've created an ActionScript3.0 file and when I try to import my mp3 file (to stage or library), the file I want is greyed out and I can't select it. (When I create an HTML5 file, I can import the mp3). Does ActionScript prevent importing of mp3 files?

The import filter doesn't grey out files though, it just doesn't show them. I think something else is going on here.

do you have 'all formats' selected for file type when importing?
