Question

Can't preview audio in Library or timeline

I'm using an HP desktop running windows 10. I can import audio (44100Hz PCM 16bit) into Animate 2020 but cannot hear it in the timeline or play it in the library. The wave form is visible. Sync is on stream. When I test the movie though the sound is there. I've udated all sound drivers in my computer and checked app specific volume levels. I've tried Animate versions from 2018 and 2019 with the same problem. When I use however a another laptop using windows 10 and animate 2020 all is fine so presumably it has something to do with the connections within my desktop, but for the life of me I've run out of ideas. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi mate,

Do you have, say, an onboard audio card, then a PCIe audio card, then a TV plugged in an HDMI and then a USB microphone with a headphone jack. This are 4 potential audio playback devices.

It is entirely possible that the signal is sent to a device that you are not listening.

Places to look are Windows > Control Panel > Sound > Playback

The Sound Mixer in the system tray

Sound Settings > Advanced Sound Options where you can divert a specific 64-bit app to a different sound device

Also, if you have not restarted the PC recently, do it; even try shut down / start.

Close everything else that is running to make sure there are no interferences from other programs.

Hope this gives you some ideas where to look.

Thanks for your quick reply,

Your ideas are along my thinking, but alas no I have no other playback devices. The good news though is I've managed to solve it. Going back over the simple things again I discovered that while fully updated for its design my OS was not using the newest version. I had missed this somehow. Updated and now all working. Phew.
