Can't zoom when animation is playing

Question

Noticing in Adobe Animate 2024 that if the animation is running, you can't zoom in (not even with the zoom tools)

Was not like this on 2019. Been trying to switch because of 2019's unreliable auto recovery but every single time I do I remember this small issue and it drives me up the wall.

Is there a way I can fix this?

you should be relying on auto-recovery. you should save your fla frequently and append an increasing version number to the file name. periodically close and open the latest version. if that's successful, you can delete previous versions.
