Copy and Paste from Ai to Animate CC no longer shows multiple layers but turns it into a mask

Hi, on a previous version of Animate CC, I was able to copy and paste a grouped layer from Ai then paste on to the Animate CC stage without any issues.  It would retain all the groupings and so forth.  Now, when I do it, it does some kind of weird mask on it.  Is this some kind of import preference that is causing this?

If copy from Illustator right into animate there should be now issue, which is sounds like you did, but then you ask about preferences. So did you import it or copy and paste?

It works fine when I save the other file as an AI file and I import it. It no longer allows copy and paste like it used it, which was a much quicker workaround.  I was asking about preferences because I was wondering if there was some kind of default preference that was switched that is causing this weird mask layer with a lock on and a red box that appears if I unlock it.
