Copying art from illustrator to animate

Whenever I try to add a file from illustrator as a .ai or .svg file it wont let me import it at all (or copy-paste it in). My entire software just crashes from it. It does let me import jpeg and png (even files that are much bigger than my .ai and .svg files) with no problem. I want my files as vectors and with layers. Can anyone help?

Update to the latest version (24.0.14), it should be fixed now:

I did actually try updating after I first encountered the issue, so I am on that version and it still doesnt work. Interesting that the issue is one of the fixes to based on that ill try uninstall and redownloading it but I doubt it will work since I already tried that
