Could not open this scene or item, possibly due to a damaged file or not enough available memory

Hi.  I have a file that had all the symbols in their place.  But when I open it, I get the attached error message and when I click okay, there's nothing in my scene.  I tried downloading the original file backed up on my Google drive but I keep getting the same error.  How can I fix this?
