Creating a Colour Tween, During a Motion Tween

Sorry if this has already been a covered topic, it's just that a days worth of searching for solutions to this problem has bore no fruit.

Basically, I'm doing some character animation on flash, where the character is motion tweened into frame. The idea was to have the character covered in black/shadow, so when the motion tween finishes, the colour, or lack there of because of the black, changes into it's normal colour scheme. Like a reveal if you will

The motion tween has worked just fine, but every tutorial is telling me to use a shape tween inside this motioned symbol, which contorts the entire shape/character into the colour change, rather than just the colour itself

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
