Duplicated Symbols Updating Original Symbol

Each time I duplicate a symbol in Adobe Animate and edit the new (duplicate) symbol, the old version of the symbol will be updated as well. This brought a project I was working on to a halt for several weeks while I attempted to troubleshoot with Adobe Support. They provided a workaround (copy the symbol into a new Animate project, edit it, then paste it back into the original project and select "Put duplicate items into a folder" when prompted), but I was told that this issue (which they were able to reproducte on their end) would only be truly fixed with the next release of Animate. Some project files will contain this error and others will not, seemingly at random.

Support, please let me know when this issue is resolved in an update! It's really hampering my work.
