Embedding avi video clips into timeline of Flash Basic 8

Trying to add avi video to timeline along with jpeg files. In doing so the video does not play back properly but instead slowly progresses frame by frame at the same rate as the jpeg files. What do I need to do in order to embed the video and have it play back as a movie?
