empty key frame causing layers to dissaper

I'm new to animate and I am trying to keyframe a simple character. However, I accidentally did something causing the departure keyframe on one layer to turn blank, Which in turn made that entire layer dissapear from the scene. I'm sure its a simple non- intuitive oversight, but Its had me stumped for the better part of an hour.
