Error Exporting to .svg in Animate 16.2.0.24

I'm trying to export some simple art as an .svg Image (legacy) and I keep getting this error:

A JavaScript error occurred.

SyntaxError: missing ) after argument list

All I want to do is export vector art so I can open it in Illustrator; there's no programming involved in my file at all. Is there some kind of patch that I need to download and install?

Correct answer Colin Holgate

There were no exotic characters in the file path, BUT there was an apostrophe in the folder name that I was trying to export into. I removed the apostrophe and it works fine now. I've been using bullets and underscores for years, I didn't think an apostrophe would screw things up.

I could reproduce that. I've logged a bug about it.

Hi Dave,

Can you please share the file that is showing this problem?

You can use any file sharing utility and post its link here or PM it to me.

Also, try the SVG option present in Publish Settings dialog and see if that works or not.

I'm Facebook friends and ex-colleague with Dave, and already gave him the Publish Settings workaround for now. It did work ok.

So, this is different to the previous problem where a file wasn't being created, but the same work-around works. I asked about getting an example FLA, but these are complex and confidential client images.

Dave, if you copy a random unrecognisable part of one of the images into a new FLA, does it then give the Javascript error? If you could make an FLA that showed the problem it would be very handy.

Oh, something else to try. What happens if you move a problematic FLA to the desktop, does it then work without an error? Your FLAs may be deeply buried somewhere that leads to path issues.

Thanks, Colin! Using Publish Settings worked and copying the file to the desktop worked. I didn't think the file was buried that deeply.
