Explain Random Math Please

I am completely confused on exactly how Math.random() works. Mabye I'm looking for the wrong code to make a random number generator. Could someone please post some simple code that will come up with a random number and then show a that number? And then if you could, explain how that code works. Just so I don't have to come back and ask another one of these dumb questions! Thanks!

var t:int=Math.round(s);  // t is a random integer between n and m
