Flash CC frequently crashing

I'm working on the most basic project you could imagine and Flash CC crashes on me every 5-10 minutes. I can't pinpoint what is causing this as all I am doing so far is making keyframes, making labels, layers, folders, creating symbols, using basic drawing tools, ... BASIC stuff here. I'm just trying to set up my timeline and it keeps dying on me. I'm up to date on updates. My computer is a brand new iMac just a few weeks old, so there isn't much cluttering up my system at this point.

Oh puh-lease... Flash has been crashing for me for 14 years. Some days it's better than others, but I'll go from crashing every few hours to crashing every few minutes. Flash crashing has been a consistent, ongoing problem for me since before Adobe bought Macromedia. I'm talking about multiple different major versions of Flash, installed on different computers, laptops and desktops, across Windows and Mac, across projects big and small. Projects with assets coped from previous projects, or projects where everything was created from scratch. I've been dealing with Flash crashing for time spanning multiple jobs, multiple girlfriends and multiple presidential administrations. I've bought cars, and crashed those cars, and bought new cars. I've started smoking and quit smoking and joined a gym and defaulted on my gym payments. I've moved across town and across the country. I've submitted so many error reports to Adobe that they could wallpaper a house with it. I've lost more work due to flash crashes that I want to cry when I think about it. I'd like to invoice Adobe for the hours they've cost me due to lost work, but I'd have to get hazard pay because flash crashing makes me suicidal and it's a demonstrable risk to working with the software. Flash crashing has been the most reliable event of my life. Like the postal service. Like the north star. If the new version of Flash didn't crash regularly like the past 10 versions, I would probably have a heart attack and die because the graphic design gods must be tired of torturing me and just decided to pull the plug. For the love of all that is holy, Adobe, stop the pain! Stop the crashing, or at least send a doctor to put me out of my misery!

I feel for the frustration of having Flash CC crash multiple times throughout the day. I had been dealing with this myself for the past few weeks. On a daily basis I had crash after crash. Hitting save every minute or so became common practice. Just yesterday I eagerly downloaded a new Flash CC update and since doing so I have yet to experience one crash in Flash CC. Please make the time to download it yourself if you haven't already.

Good luck!

Flash CS5, CS6 and CC all crash frequently on my Mac across several OS versions and years. It happens when drawing in general. I don't think it will ever be fixed really. With every release we're given the same story that an update is on its way. It just isn't a stable program - it must be fundamentally screwed for this issue to remain unresolved this long. There are severeal threads, countless crash reports submitted and Flash still remains an unstable program. An hour of work in this program will generate multiple crashes for me, inevitably. Do I just deal with it, or do I throw my mac in the garbage? The only fix now is for me to just change my profession. I'll just stop drawing/animating... Years of frustration. Fuçking years.

Adobe, why don't you just call Flash Pro CC something closer to what it really is: Flash Elements CC - and then let us people who actually use your tools for real-life work know when you are bringing out something that is actually an improvement on Flash Pro CS6. I have lost so much time and work on Flash "Pro" CC that I had to go back to CS6, I was astounded that it was released with so many features removed! I haven't been using Flash for a while to develop anything serious, when an app crashes just moving objects around on the screen, I can't imagine how anyone can use this as their main production environment anymore.

Hi all,

Can you check out the FAQ section for a solution to Flash Pro crashes?

Thanks,

The Faq doesnt really relate to any of the crashes we see here - mostly related to interactions on the stage.

Anyhow here are the correct crash reports, the previous link was corrupt.

Flash CC crashes on me as well between 10-20 times per day, always doing basic stuff in the timeline. Extremly annoying.

For what it's worth I spend at least 12 hours a day using both Flash CC and Flash CS6 both Mac and PC and they seldom crash if ever. When they do it usually ends up being tied to some errant symbol or element in the Library. I know that doesn't answer or solve your question but not all of us have this problem so perhaps, and I'm just suggesting this it might have something to do with an incompatiblity of your video card, ram, hard drive or some other issue.

This is astonishingly unhelpful place. Answers seem to fall into two distinct categories:

1) "Hi! I'm a fellow user. I don't have that problem. You're on your own!"

or

2) "Hi! I work for Adobe. Please read this encyclopedia that mentions nothing about your problem in it."

Neither type of response is the least bit helpful, or informative, or even germaine to the trouble I'm having.

Hey, I had this same problem when I initially bought Flash CC also, but I kept on using it and now it only crashes once every three weeks. One thing I noticed was that when I would press enter it randomly crash at times. For now, just save every time before you hit enter. Hopefully your version will work like mine and the problem will just go away by itself!

I'm having the same problem: Frequent crashes when performing basic tasks.  I've been using Flash CC for two days now, and I've probably had about a dozen crashes.  Very frustrating.

I have Flash CS6 installed as well, and I would like to keep it that way for the time being if that's not the problem.  I don't have Firebug installed in Firefox.  I also don't have any crash logs — my ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports contains only a few .hang files for other (CS6) programs from earlier this month.

I just started using Flash CC yesterday and it freezes up frequently. Usually after just switching to it after doing something else. LIke just now, after typing my first sentence, I clicked flash and it locked up.

However I have found if I hit ctrl-alt-delete and Start Task Manager, Flash CC starts working again. Then I just quit the task manager. The first few times I clicked end process, but I don't seem to need to do that. It's almost 900,000k in Memory which seems like a lot.

This crash log looks similar to the issue reported by few others, which was happening because of the flash firebug plugin in firefox. Please check http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/kb/flash-pro-cc-crash-creating.html for more details. Can you check if uninstalling the plugin fixes the issue for you? If you are still facing the issue then can you please check if there is an mm.cfg file in your home directory. You can post the contents of the same here.

I am on Windows 7. I have had the worst experience with Flash ever (been using it since it was called FutureSplash).

In a single 2.5 day project (should have only been 1.5 days), I experienced the following:

  • EVERY time I launch the application, it begins the launch process and then crashes without even showing an error message - it just stops launching.
  • The second time I launch it, and subsequent times thereafter, it launches fine.
  • Any time I try to launch Flash by double-clicking a .FLA file it crashes before launching without throwing an error message.
  • During development, it crashes repeatedly - approximately once per hour.
  • I finished the project last Friday and on Saturday morning went in to open the project file only to find it was corrupted and could not be opened.
  • I was able to rebuild the FLA by performing the following steps:
    • Duplicate the corrupted file.
    • Rename the FLA extention to .zip.
    • Open the newly named zip file in WinZip
    • Click the repair button.
    • Rename the newly created zip file to FLA and open it.
    • Viola - at least it is open now - but you will discover the corrupted images or asssets still show up as keyframes but not actually have an object on the stage - you'll have to manually go delete them and recreate them.
  • Exporting a sequence of still images crashed 3 times before succeeding - the process crashed due to insufficient memory yet I have 32GB of RAM in my pretty dang awesome Lenovo W500 and a 3GB Graphics card.

Lastly, the complexity of my FLA file was minimal. It was simple animations and masks - the final product was a video - hence my need to export to still frames.

My Adobe peeps - please help me get this resolved - I am happy to spend hours on the phone screen sharing and letting you control my computer to figure it out. Help me! Help me! Oh lawdy laaawwwd (name that reference for a free biscuit).

I too am experiencing frequent crashes of Flash CC when I try to do the simplest thing. I am on a Mac.

I find no folder:

~/Library/DiagnosticReports/

Nor do I find any files labeled mdmp.

What can I do to resolve this problem? I can't get a thing done!

regards,

Andy

Is FlashCC a parallel install with older version of Flash Pro? Even if this is the case it should not crash. But still would like to know.

I have CS6 installed as well.

So after my post, it crashed one more time when I created a blank keyframe, then it stayed up for a solid hour of work. At that point I was saving every minute just in case. Not sure what was going on with the 5 times it crashed before then, but it was very disheartening.

Can you please share the crash log? Since you are on MAC, you should be getting an error report. You can just copy and paste the same here.
