Flash Cs3 Problem

Okay so i hace a problem, at college im using version 8 of flash but at home im sing cs3 professional and i have a problem, iv converted my text into a symbol, button, and when i go to add an action it tells me that the "current selection cant have an action applied to it"

can someone help me? im trying to add the on (release), gotoandstop actions for my text but it wont let me.
