Question

Good book for AS3?

Hi everyone,

I just started with Flash CS4 and AS3 and I've viewed some Lynda.com tutorials, but I keep finding myself in trouble when trying to combine some stuff and come up with my own scripts.

I'm working on a portfolio website which needs dynamic text and images, loaded from outside of Flash (XML?) so I won't have to re-publish my site everytime I want to update the site. And I'd like to combine it with something like Shadowbox (or create something simular myself... no clue how to do it though) for a nice visual when viewing my created art.

Since I'm kinda new to scripting, I wanna ask you if any of you knows a good easy-to-use/easy-to-read book which I can use to create my website, which explains how to create and combine everything I posted above. There are so many books out there and I don't even know where to start since most of them are available online only (which means it's hard to review them before buying) and I don't have unlimited funds to buy them all.

I hope to get some good advice here. Thanks a bunch in advance!

There are a number of good books on AS3:

1. Learning ActionScript 3.0 - This is the best book for beginners.

2. ActionScript 3.0 Bible

3. ActionScript 3.0 Cookbook

4. ActionScript 3.0 Design Patterns

When you're ready to tackle something a little more challeging, Essential ActionScript 3.0 is probably the best reference book I've seen.

Learning ActionScript 3.0 Learning ActionScript 3.0

this has enough information for you to get up and running,

when you are finally up to speed i recomend you get the as3 bible and continue revieweing the api
