I'm not even sure what you would call this, but I'd like to do something similar to this:

I've been doing google searches most of the night trying to find a tutorial for something similar. Any suggestions are welcome.

I would agree with the previous post recommending the Friends of Ed book. I am currently going through "Action Script for Flash 8" and it covers this in some of their examples. I fairly new at this but here is the script that I think will help you.

For the tutorials including the flash files, go to : http://www.friendsofed.com/download.html?isbn=1590596188. You can check in Chp. 1 tutorials.

You will have to use the x_mouse and _ymouse functions and then for your image you might need to use the xDist and the YDist on your when the mouse moves in that portion of the image. The xDist and YDist are in chapter five in the tutorials section

Hope this helps.

Site has some good tutorials. Being re-worked right now. Check the math ones, the drawing api, maybe scrolling thumbnails ..

It's definitely animation based on mouse movement. It's all done with Actionscript. You might want to check out the Friends of Ed book "Flash Math Creativity." There are some simlar projects in there. That will at least get you started.

Good luck!
