How can i select elements on the same layer behind a lot other elements?

Hi,today I opened an .ai file in An and there were many objects on the same level. I needed an object that was behind many other objects and moved all other objects to be able to select my object. Then I had to move the other elements back to their old positions. That was a lot of effort and time-consuming. Is there an option to make it easier to select the object behind many other objects on the same level? Best regards,René

I'd suggest you select all the elements and right-click; then from the context menu choose Distribute to Layers.

Then each element will occupy its own layer and you will be able to lock, unlock, and select more easily.
