How does LR edits get to desktop catalog pariculary when working offline?

How does LR edits get to main catalog in desktop

particularry when working offline

I can see edits syncing to web/cloud

but if it writes/ syncs to desktop

i assume you have to force a backup the next time u start ur DT

What is the process? for understanding
