I cannot not get the option to shape tween

I am trying to shape tween two symbols of a puppy. I have broken them apart but I don't get the option to shape tween them. I have come at them in a number of ways but I can't seem to figure it out.

You can only shape tween a single vector shape. Not... whatever it is you're trying to do.

I have tried to get it to work. It takes me at least 6 times hitting 'B' to get the entire puppy set up for the change. 

 

 When I get done it still doesn't work.

 

 It causes the puppy to not be colored properly.

why are you using a shape tween on a dog?  that would unusual unless you're "crushing" the dog or something else similarly morbid.

    try breaking them apart a 2nd time (and, in general, until they're shapes).
