images not appearing on stage they turn into invisible rectangles?

Yeh have check the layers are all visible.
Saw someone who suggested that the templates were corrupted. So went back
and have tried setting up from scratch. The new attempts keep doing the
same thing. The JPEGs download to the library. But become invisible when
placed in the stage? Trying to just make a simple slideshow. The old
version for some reason wouldn't work something about the buttons needed to
connected to a web address to function and the action script would not
function. And copying items and using in another animation not possible?
They are only used simple back and forward actions. At the moment can have
either a slide show where the buttons don't work or have a slideshow where
you can't see any images.
Maybe there is a fault with the software
