Importance of stage size

I was wondering how important stage size is in Animate and how it affects the final product. Since Animate is in vector I would assume that any animation can be exported at any size, which would then make stage size not too important.

    True.

What is important is the aspect ratio, esp. if you only use vector. A 1280x720 FLA can be exported to 1920x1080 MP4 without any loss of quality.

If you also use bitmaps and filters, however, stage size is more important, because filters may render differently if you export at higher/lower resolution.

A couple of versions ago Animate was sending files to Media Encoder based on stage size and not render size. So if you had say a 960 x 540 px stage and wanted it to render as a 4K MP4, the program would render an MOV video at stage resolution first, to then send it to Media Encoder which would then stretch it to 4K making the video look blurred so you had to always work at final resolution to avoid it.

Looks like the devs fixed it at some point though, I don't know exactly when but hey they did it! So you shouldn't have any problems with smaller stage sizes now, just a heads-up for those using older versions with Media Encoder.
