Increase size of Layer Outlines or Symbol Selection boxes?

Is there a way to increase the point size of Layer Outlines or Symbol Selection boxes? On my retina display they all appear to be 1 pixel which for me is too small for some tasks. They easily get lost on top of a reference image or a busy screen. Yes, I could use a larger point stroke with no fill and avoid the outline function, but that defeats the purpose of the function.
