Key Frames in a Symbol?

Hellooo. I'd really like some help in Adobe Flash Animate. Sorry if I don't use the proper terms for this, but here goes:

My teacher provided me with a character sheet for an assignment, and the head is a symbol. So when I double click the head, there are key frames with facial expressions. I tried lip syncing within the symbol, but the animation didn't appear when I played the clip. I tried taking the facial expressions out of the symbol and pasting them onto the timeline; but that didn't work either because it only copied one frame and the mouth always would appear behind the head. I'm not really sure how to go about this because for the other character sheet that was provided to me, the facial expressions would play.

Any idea how I can get my lip syncing to show when I play my animation?

Thanks in advance!

If the symbol is a movieclip it doesn't show/play while editing, only after publishing. Set it to graphic (loop or play once) in the properties panel.

Thank you! That did the trick.
