Question

Layer names - "special characters" such as 0 and - are no longer compatible?

Recently come back to the latest Animate for a project.

When naming layers "special characters" such as 0 and - and empty spaces are no longer compatible?

I'm using Animate to set up a model to rig in another program and our naming convention requires some of these characters.

I can work around this but it's just irritating and feels like an arbitrary change...

Is there a setting somewhere to override this?

The change isn't arbitrary. With Advanced Layers enabled, layer names are required to be valid variable names.

Hi mate,

If you don't use Layer Parenting or any of the so-called 'Advanced' layer features, you can switch off that and layer names will start accepting any characters.

Just go to Modify > Document... and remove the checkbox for Advanced Layers.

You can also make this default for new files.

Ah! So simple. I don't use any of the advanced features so this is perfect! Thanks so much!
