I have just managed to figure out how to get a button to work, and now I get the message 'Macromedia flash player has stopped a pontentially unsafe operartion'!

It says that I need to go and edit the settings, so I have gone to the part of adobe/macromedia website clicked always allow, but nothing has changed...

All I am trying to do test a file on my computer that connects to the internet. What do I need to do to get it to work?

Thanks

Mat

Hello Mattew,

What you are experiencing is one of the new security parameters Adobe/Macromedia introduced to Flash Player 8. The one in particular about Flash not being allowed to use JavaScript when the Flash movie is located on the machine's hard-drive.

For more information, follow this link: Developer Center: Security Changes in Flash Player 8

Go to the page on "Local Sandboxes"

Thanks for your reply.

I have to confess I am a little confused by all of that info and not really too sure in what area my swf falls. Will it work once I place the file on the remote server? I don't particulary want to go adding paths on my PC to a server somewhere else in the world!

From your explanation, I assume new security settings being introduced to prevent access to my hard drive, the swf will only fail when on my hard drive.

Is that right?

Exactly. There are three ways you can go about this.

First you could change your Flash Player trust settings to trust Flash files on your desktop. ( Follow this link to see how)

You could upload your Flash files to a server and test them there.

Finally you could write a Flash trust file in a Text editor.
(Literally you would type the file location of your Flash file into a simple text file. (.txt) Then place this file here: C:\Documents and Settings\ your_account\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#Security\FlashPlayerTrust)
