Question

Make Animate more customizable

Hello

I'm not a programming expert, but I wanted to share a few thoughts.

Since Animate is now primarily in maintenance mode, with no new features in sight, I wonder if Adobe could consider making Animate more deeply customizable or even partially moddable for users who want to continue expanding the software themselves.

There are already many things that can be done through scripts and extensions, but there are also aspects of the interface and underlying functionality that don't appear to be accessible through the current tools.

For example, it would be nice to have the ability to customize the brightness intensity or the color of the overlay in View > Preview Mode > Anti-Alias, when entering symbols or groups.

Or to mark specific regions of the timeline with colors, icons, readable text or other visual indicators that could make navigating longer timelines less painful.

A more open and customizable Animate could allow experienced users to develop their own improvements and workflows and then share these tools that could benefit the wider Animate community, as well. It could also give users more freedom to tailor the program to their individual needs, including disabling features they don't use in order to keep their workspace simpler and more efficient.

I think giving users more freedom to customize Animate could be a great way to keep the software evolving through its own community, even if Adobe itself is no longer adding major new features. And it could also attract new customers.

Animate still seems to have a dedicated community of animators, and it would be a shame if an awesome program like this would stay abandoned without any new features or tools.

Please consider it.

    Hi.

Yeah, really cool suggestions. Let's hope some day Adobe at least considers giving more flexibility to the community, as currently Animate is supposed to only receive security updates and bug fixes.

In the meantime, I think it's also a good idea to dig into Animate's installation and user's settings folders and look for possible exposed settings that can be changed, allowing a level of customization that goes beyond the current IDE and flows.

Of course, not illegal hacking. Just stuff that Adobe may have considered too advanced or not important to the users and just left it buried.

    Regards,

    JC

This is a great idea. More customization would give experienced users much more control over their workflow and could help keep Animate useful for the community even without major new features.
