MovieClip animate rotation or movie in Canvas more

I am thinking about animating a movieclip change in property state (rotation, scale or location), but through code. Example rotate a square movieclip 30 degrees through code and have the transition animated using a loop in a function call. 

Would this be smooth animation? Is it worth doing? What would be the best, smoothest way to show the rotation?
