Question

newbie questions about keyframes and onion skin

Hey, so I'm trying to figure out animate and ran into some trouble with probably very obvious answers. First, I'm trying to animate on twos, so I start drawing on my first keyframe, move over two, and draw on the next one. But when I watch the playback, all the frames show up one after the other without disappearing, so that at the end of the animation all of the keyframes are visible.

Second, I'm trying to use onion skin mode, but it doesn't seem to be working on previous frames, only on future ones? All the frames beforehand are still visible. Even after playing around with the advanced settings and specifying a 2 frame range, changing up the colors or opacity, I can't get it to work. Can anyone help me out?

Hi Carolyn,

I suspect that you when you are creating your new keyframes they are not blank, but instead you have a copy of your previous drawing already there, and you are now drawing on top of it.

With the default shortcuts you can usually create a Blank Keyframe with F7.

ah you were right! I thought that I was using the right shortcut, but apparently not. Everything works now, thank you 🙂
