no object showing

I was a Flash user and would like to see whether you can create interactive program like with Flash. Strangely whatever object I put on the stage, it's invisible. If I reopen the document with a few objects I added before, I see them briefly and disappear. Is there something wrong with my copy or system. I gave me warning about video driver or something when I first launched the course. My laptop is 3 to 4 years old.
